Top Medieval War Strategy Games for Android & iOS Mobile

There are a lot of medieval-themed war strategy games available on mobile platforms. Here, we’ll take a quick look at 3 of the most popular and widely played.

Tribal Wars 2

Tribal Wars 2 is a follow-up to the successful Tribal Wars strategy game. The graphics and interface have been given an overhaul, and new features such as dynamic map updates and a new questing system have also been added. As with the previous instalment, the goal in Tribal Wars 2 is to upgrade your castle and expand your kingdom. Thematically strong, Tribal Wars 2 looks to immerse the player in medieval combat and intrigue.

You can use your army to plunder resources from other players’ kingdoms. Alliances can be made with fellow players if you’re having a hard time defending yourself or taking down a powerful enemy. Tribal Wars 2 can be played on iOS, Android and within a Web browser.

Clash of Clans

A more tribal-themed offering (despite the names), Clash of Clans is one of the more well-known mobile titles in this genre. Here, the focus is on developing a tribe and throwing them into combat against those of other players in order to gain resources, so that you can improve your buildings and expand. In a breath of fresh air, Clash of Clans also offers a small single player component where the player has to raid several goblin controlled villages.

The name though comes from the ‘Clan Wars’ that players can get involved in. Groups of players will join forces to take on opposing groups in conflicts that span over a 24 hour period, where bonus rewards are given for performance. Available on iOS and Android.

Clash of Kings

The newest of the 3 games covered here, Clash of Kings relies heavily on tactical combat in a world where players fight against one another for control over 7 kingdoms. Thematically, it is more fantasy-styled than realistic, with traditional fantasy races thrown into the mix.

Taking a page from popular board games, players can make alliances with others while carrying malicious intent, looking for the perfect opportunity to stab their would-be friends in the back for maximum gain.

The city building is SimCity-esque coupled with the ability to upgrade existing buildings and build defences to protect against attack – an unguarded kingdom will make for an easy target.

Graphically, it is one of the more impressive mobile offerings currently available on the mobile platforms. Clash of Kings is available on Android, iOS and as a Facebook app.

Final Thoughts

All of the games discussed here are free to play offerings with optional micro transactions that can drastically alter the gameplay experience. Of the three, I recommend Clash of Kings if you’re really looking to show off your latest generation mobile device.
