Strike for Heroes is played primarily with the directional controls or the WASD keys if you wish, with these keys controlling the movement of your character. You must use the mouse to aim the crosshair and shoot at your enemies, the Q or Shift button to switch between your primary and secondary weapons, and the obvious R button to reload your weapon when the clip runs out. The aim of the game is simply to be responsible for more kills than the opposing team, accruing a kill score that is higher than your team’s death score will eventually result in victory for your side. Campaign mode is the main part of the game which has you battling against enemy in different levels or ‘arenas’ where the enemies spawn continuously until the round is over. If you die, you also spawn after a few seconds and continue playing as normal.
The game has role-playing aspects to it such as the ability to level up your character by gaining experience points for your team through every kill you make. There are also four characters to choose from: a medic, an assassin, a commando, and a ‘tank’ player. Each player has their own differing levels of ability in various areas like aim, health, and ammo. You also get to select from a massive arsenal of character-specific weapons as well. The assassin can be equipped with many different sniper rifles, for example, and the commando can be armed with heavy weapons like the RPG or machine guns. Of course, weapons must be unlocked with many requiring you to reach a certain level before they can actually be used. You also have kill-streaks and also passive abilities to choose from as you level up as well.
The game stands out a fair amount in a visual sense because of its distinctive design, which can be a little rough around the edges but is generally very well refined and what you would expect of a war-themed game that is all about fighting and more fighting. The music is also very enjoyable, with some funky remixes of songs you may already recognise as well as some brilliant sound effects for all of the different guns that make the battles seem quite gritty and shots seem satisfying. Not everyone will enjoy the repeated kill, die, repeat style of play of Strike Force Heroes, but as far as arena shooter games go, Strike Force Heroes is up there with the absolute best on the top of the flash pile.
